CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, these applications of web-based compensation and benefit planning, web-based learning and development and also web-based Organizational Safety and Health (OSHA) do simplifies the work load of an HR department and most importantly, it helps in ensuring the organizational productivity and effectiveness. This is because, previously, all of them have to rely on written reports and there are like thousands of form to be filled by the employees. As a result, there are probabilities of data loss and also it wastes a lot of time and money.

Thus, hopefully, with the implementation of these web-based tools and applications, there will be no more issues arise on the loss of information and the system will be working smoothly and effectively. However, one thing to be pondered by the top management is, they have to carefully review on the relevancy of implementing these applications. This is because, they have to first ensures that this applications will be working aligned with the organization’s missions and visions.

WEB-BASED OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH (OSHA)

One of the fundamental human resources management involves the administration of Organizational Safety and Health. What is meant by Organizational Safety and Health and why is it so important to be implemented in every organization? Organization Safety and Health (OSHA) is responsible for establishing, monitoring and enforcing Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) standards and practices in firms. There are various functions of OSHA, which are:

      I.          Reviewing employer records of workplace deaths, injuries and illnesses.
II.          Conduct on-site inspections at the workplace and note observed violations.
III.          Conduct employee interviews or survey to elicit any safety concerns.
IV.          Discuss the findings and violations happen in the workplace with the employer so that he/she noted about their current safety conditions.

As the world is turning brighter with advanced technology, so does the world of managing employees. Now, there is lots of web-based Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) invented and created in order to assist employer in recording purposes. There will be no more usage of the burdensome paper-form that will only waste the organization’s time, money and productivity.

There are a lot of advantages of implementing this web-based Organizational Safety and Health (OSHA) system. First, rather than having to wait for several days as before, required information for either EEO or OSHA reports can be obtained in any minutes. This is because, previously, it took ages for the management to review on the OSHA reports as there are a lot of processes have to be done. For instances, HR departments have to review the records first, compiling the information, and then forwarding it to the centralized location for further compilation.

Next, by using web-based Organizational Safety and Health (OSHA), it is certainly helps in avoiding waste of the employees’ precious time. This is due to usage of electronic reporting that moves from computer to computer and it can ensure timely receipt of reports.

Previously, all employees are required to fill in the OSHA Form 300, OSHA Form 301 and OSHA Form 300A. OSHA Form 300 functions as to record all reportable work-related injuries and illnesses and this form must be completed annually by them. Then, OSHA Form 301 is used to record supplementary information about reportable cases whereas OSHA Form 300A is used to display total injuries and illnesses for the year and it must be posted to all employees, for them to have a review on it.

WEB-BASED EMPLOYEE LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

“There is no end of education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.” According to Kavanagh et al, education can be defined as a formal program of study which develops the learners through general knowledge, understanding and moral values. While learning can be defined as the process of assimilating new knowledge and skills gained from experience or practice that would lead to changes in behaviour.

Learning and development is such an essential components in developing employees towards achieving the organizational effectiveness and productivity. In reality, every employee seeks to receive or attend any learning or training as they realized the importance of improving themselves physically and mentally. This is because, every employee has their own career plan and they perceived learning as the turning point for them to achieve their ambition. Besides that, mastering themselves with required skills and knowledge may helps them in obtaining job promotion and it is such a precious thing to be proud of if they plan to move to other organization.

The implementation of web-based learning and development would really give such a beautiful impact to the organization as nowadays, it involves learning management software that is usually bundled into a learning management system (LMS). This Learning Management System comprises of three main components which are the organizational administration, training management, and talent management.

However, many of the implementation of web-based learning and development fails to meet everyone’s expectation as most of the companies did not know or have any idea on how the system works.

Normally, the system is implemented in their own organization just because it is also implemented by their competitors and they would like to be seen as modern as their competitor. However, this is absolutely wrong and thus, it brings them into failure. The top management must first have a thoroughly review on that system, and then reviewing their own company’s mission and vision. This is to ensure that the system would not be a waste of time and money and most importantly the system must be able to be handles by everyone in the company. Thus, it is best for the top management to first, ensure that the system they are going to implement is aligned to the organization’s missions and visions.

WEB-BASED COMPENSATION

As we know, Human Resources Management consists of various functions and one of the fundamental functions would be compensation. According to Richard L. Daft in his book entitled New Era of Management, compensation may be refer as all monetary payments and all goods or commodities used in lieu of money to reward employees.

Basic compensation system comprises of base pay, merit pay, short-term and long-term incentives, perquisites, recognition awards and attraction or retention awards. Thus, it does involves a lot of complicated processes to go through and plus, there will be unique processes for special populations like executives, sales personnel, expatriates and many more.

The organization has to ensure that the compensation and benefits system is running effectively in the company so that it would attract and retain talented workers in the organization.

As we are breathing in a technology-based era, administering compensation via technology would be the best way in order to enhance the organizational productivity and the management as well. The application of web-based compensation may help the organization to cut the organizational cost and of course, it simplifies the administrative work load.

There are several advantages of using this web-based compensation. First, web-based compensation would ease human resources department a lot in terms of managing the compensation and employees’ benefit. Thus, when applying this system, of course, the human resources is able to avoid themselves from making any mistakes or error as the system will automatically have a thoroughly checked on it. Next, web-based compensation tool do not need any installation or frequent updating which will wastes the employees’ time and it is also can be access at anytime and anywhere.

In addition, web-based compensation would only use little disk space and it is a stand-alone system, in which it does not any administer to watch over it. Compared to the old, classical, traditional method of client-server based or stand-alone PC system, it does need administer in order to administer, maintain, develop and implement the policies and procedures for the sake of security purposes.

However, every single thing in this world is not perfect and has its own disadvantages and limitations. Web-based compensation rely fully on the internet access and if there is no internet connection, the system will not be functioning and if it happens regularly, it might caused big problems to the organizations. Another disadvantages would be, most of the employees are not able to handle it and having no knowledge on it. Thus, in order to solve this problems and limitations, it is best for the organization to think carefully on its pros and cons before making the decisions on the implementation of this system.
